How to clean your silver jewellery

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time as it reacts with the air. With a little care, your jewellery will stay bright and sparkling for years.

For everyday cleaning, gently rub your jewellery with a silver polishing cloth. It removes light tarnish and brings back the shine in seconds. For heavier tarnish, a silver cleaning solution works well, but always follow the instructions on the bottle.

Everyday care tips

Take it off for water.
Remove your jewellery before swimming, showering or bathing. Chlorine and salt water speed up tarnishing.
Last on, first off.
Put on perfume, hairspray and body lotion before your jewellery, and take your jewellery off before exercising or cleaning.
Store it sealed.
Keep each piece in a small sealed bag or a lined jewellery box when you're not wearing it. Less air means less tarnish, and keeping pieces apart stops scratches and tangled chains.
Wear it often.
The natural oils in your skin help to keep silver shiny, so regular wear slows tarnishing down.

Caring for stones

Cubic zirconia and moissanite can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. Rinse well and pat dry. Natural zircon is beautiful but more brittle, so avoid knocks and clean it gently by hand rather than in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Plated finishes

Some of our pieces have a rhodium-plated finish or rose-gold plated details. Clean these with a soft, dry cloth and a light touch, because heavy polishing or dip cleaners can wear the plating away over time.
